When Gina's kitten were about a week of age she went in to the vet to be spayed. I started taking the babies to work with me everyday so that I could bottle feed them. The little tiny balls of fur would spend the day napping in my pet taxi and being adored by the other employees. It wasn't all fun and games though. Every now and then one of them would potty all over themself and the others and I would have to give them baths and change out their bedding. Kittens are messy!

Kittens in a pet taxi |
After Gina came back from the vet I let the kittens nurse on her for a few more days before I made the decision to let her go back to her colony. She was not enjoying the indoor life and was starting to get very defensive when ever I tried to feed her or clean the kennel. She had let me know that she had had quite enough of being inside! So with momma back out in her colony the babies were once again getting packed up and brought to work with me everyday. They were getting fed every few hours, and they just loved all the attention they got there.

Of course, it wasn't all fun and games. Everyone imagines that kittens and puppies are all rainbows and butterflies, but I was usually getting paged so they could tell me that my kittens had messed themselves and needed cleaning. Or that they were hungry and were being really loud. Those little bitty babies sure can create a racket when they are hungry!

The kittens came with me everyday until I was sure that they could eat on their own. Then I started to leave them at home during the day in their kitty playpen. They were growing at a good pace and flourishing. They were eating canned royal canin babycat food on their own and taking an interest in the dry. All of the kittens knew how to drink the milk from a bowl at this point and had learned to feed themselves nicely. It looked like smooth sailing in kittenhood, or so I had thought.
